This
was grandson Sean's second birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SEAN!
Our
day began with the ruins of Xanthos, an ancient capital of Lycia.
Apparently Xanthos was virtually intact when british explorers
arrived in 1838 but carted away many of the artifacts. The Harpy
Tomb is here as well as a large theater.
There were brief photo opportunities
at the white sand beach and Triumphal Gate ruins of Patara
and then it was on to a delightful lunch in a traditional home
in the farming village of Bezirgan where we watched the food
preparation. We sat on the floor arounds tables and all was
delicious! What a treat!
We
stopped to see the nearby storage sheds that are modeled
after the tombs carved in the mountain cliffs. We drove
to the busy coastal resort town of Fethiye (ancient Telmessos)
where we had time for a walk in the in the colorful farmers'
market and nearby shopping streets before dinner in the
hotel restaurant overlooking the harbor.
